A member asked:

I have been having middle ear infection on and off now for the laat 3 months. everytime there is a build up which causes the glue ear. painful, irritable and cant hear. i am 28yrd old, is grommets an option for me? or is there a different solution?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe/not: Grommets are most often of value in little kids whose Eustachian tubes are small, short & swell closed easily with various factors. By the teen years adult head size is present as are the relative mechanical factors that make glue ear less likely. If/when it persists for 3+ months without clearing temporary grommets may help but an ENT may have other options to offer. I would visit one to see.
