A member asked:

Would blood test result for fructosamine be affected by having thalassemia trait? my result is 288 umol/l range 205-285 could it mean diabetes?

Maybe: Many practitioners use the hemoglobin A1C level rather than the fructosamine level to evaluate long term blood sugar levels. The fructosamine level of 288 suggests a long term blood sugar level averaging 150 & equals a A1C level of 7. This suggests pre-diabetes or emerging adult onset diabetes. This is a level you should discuss with your doc & has little to do with trait.

Need to test: Agree with Dr. F. You should see your doctor and get tests for fasting glucose and A1c. Have a healthy diet, exercise, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. For nutrition: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/. Get HPV vaccine
