Herpes Simplex: the virus associated with cold sores is not easily spread and when it is it is secondary to direct contact. Your Dentist is trained to maintain sterility of his equipment and more likely than not used a mask for "close" work. This protects HIM/HER as well as the patient. Hope this is helpful BE WELL Dr Z
