Possible, unlikely: Yes, that would be possible. However, most dentists would be aware of this risk and would be very careful to avoid contacting their oral herpes and then the patient's mouth area. Also, the dentist undoubtedly uses latex gloves, which would prevent transmission. If in doubt, discuss with the dentist. I'm sure s/he will be happy to discuss it with you.
