OTC pain meds: If the tooth is sore from being banged on by the other tooth then pain medication like tylenol, (acetaminophen) Motrin etc. If the gums are sore from being "poked" use salt water rinses.

Keep it Clean: Mouth sores from trauma generally heal in 3-5 days on their own. Keeping the area clean is the most important factor - even if brushing & flossing the area hurts a little. More damage will be done if you do not remove the bacteria in the area. I recommend rinsing with peroxyl to my patients or use a mix of half 3% hydrogen peroxide & half water 4-6 times daily. See dentist if not gone in 1 week.

OTC pain mess +: It should feel better within a day or too. If not it needs to be adjusted more or there's another problem as the fit it the crown or nerve of the tooth is inflamed. Call your dentist and let him know.

OTC pain meds +: Take some advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what you normally take for a headache. You might need another bite adjustment or you may have a problem with the fit, or the nerve of the tooth may be inflamed. Let your dentist know what you are feeling.
