A member asked:

3year old son have difficulty falling asleep. average sleep 23h00. suggest melatonin or too young? what would the effect on his growing brain be ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confusing post: Does the kid sleep 23 hr or go to bed at 2300 ? Either way we have no data on the proper dosing of melatonin for kids that age or what it does to the brain. Adult studies suggest accumulation over time which may be a problem. Removing tech gear and stopping TV viewing at least 3 hrs before bedtime/no TV in their sleep area are a must. If I use any med it is diphenhydramine at regular dose.
