I have hashimotos and my new endocrinologist never physically checks my thyroid like my retired doctor did. is this something that should be done?

Be involved: Ask your endocrinologist to palpate your thyroid gland. Talk to your doctor and share your concerns or fears. Touching can have soothing powers and bond a patient and medical provider

TSH: While touching has psychological therapeutic value it adds little to your treatment. Your dose of medication is better adjusted with TSH levels.

If you wish: It may not be medically necessary to examine it every visit but it is reasonable to occasionally check for size, tenderness and nodules. You might want to ask your doctor why he or she does not do this. But the main reason I am answering is to recommend a great book, The Hashimoto's Protocol by Isabella Wentz. I advise everyone with Hasimoto's read it.
