More info needed: One would have to know the complete results of the test known as a cbc and differential count. Have this test repeated when his sickness has resolved and if abnormal values are found his physician or a hematologist will look into it with appropriate further testing.

How high?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that it would have helped had you provided the actual data rather than just high.
