Erythrocytosis: It could be secondary polycythemia which is caused by either natural or artificial increases in the production of erythropoietin, hence an increased production of erythrocytes. The causes could be an adaptive response to hypoxic conditions or other such as EPO-producing mass or use of anabolic steroids. It certainly requires a thorough hematology work-up to determine the cause.
