Tonsils have been swollen since about 5pm on tuesday. its painful to swallow saliva. wed at 9:45 i got 3 zithromax azithromycin 500 mg. no improvement?

Depends on...: the causative organism for swollen tonsil ( tonsillitis). If a virus is involved, antibiotics will not help relieve the problem. If you have "strep throat," you may need another 3 pills of azithromycin. In addition, antibiotic treatment generally takes 48 hours before noticeable benefit is felt.

I have tonsillitis, was precribed 2 boxes Azithromycin (only took one pill) and Etodolac every 12 hours and paracetamol but i m in pain and etodolac and paracetamol seem to do nothing. I have a lot of pain in swallowing saliva and I can not eat.

They gave me a dose of azithromycin Wednesday, February 17 because my tonsils are red and swollen and they also gave me Tylenol and Motrin but I dont have strep it came back negative but I still have very high fever Will the azithromycin work?
