STD tests: Tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia are very accurate, and if the antibiotics were effective, a negative test for either is not a "false negative". If your partner has other contacts, either may be re-acquired, so repeat testing is advised if symptoms re-occur.

Latency period: If you were recently exposed to gonorrhea and chlamydia, getting tested immediately may result in a false positive because not enough bacteria have replicated in order to be caught by the test. It can take a few days to a week for the test to turn positive, so it may be worth getting tested again and while you're at it, consider getting tested for syphilis, HIV, and Hep C.
