Ct scan flagged the thoracic aorta with a 3.8 cm asc. aorta / atherosclerosis. retested 1 yr later and nothing was flagged. why would this occur?

There is : no way to really answer that question here. You can request that the radiologist who read the recent CT addend the report with a comment on those findings and whether it is stable.
