Type 2 diabetes: Pregnancy may cause increases in blood sugar whether one is a true diabetic or not (gestational diabetes), and if you have type 2 before you were pregnant, it is likely that you will require insulin to manage the pregnancy, and reduce the risks for your child from consequences of unregulated hyperglycemia and/or diabetic ketoacidosis.
