You need calories.: But protein as calories will preferentially help you gain muscle if you work out! but weight, muscle or fat, requires a caloric excess!

Lean protein.: For general health it's recommended to take one gram of lean protein (fish, pork, egg whites, chicken, turkey) per kilogram of body weight. If you weight train, it's recommended to take one gram per pound of body weight to promote muscle recovery and building. Work out with weights and eat this amount to gain healthy muscle weight.
