A member asked:

Hi, daughter has very high fever from evening. given her calpol and now a suppository. what are the causes? have heard a couple of friends to have the same symptoms.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fever in a child is : usually related to an infection by a virus or a bacteria. Viruses can cause cough and cold sx, GI sx, or sometimes just a fever and aches. They are contagious but resolve without Rx. Bacterial infections are things are strep throat, pneumonia, ear or kidney infection. If the calpol reduces the fever, ok to treat at home 2-3 days but if breathing problem, severe headache, pain, see your doctor
