Growth restriction: Some babies can be small due to genetics, but most small babies are the result of inadequate function of the placenta. When babies stop growing, the concern is that the baby might get in distress before birth and, in the worst case, be a stillborn baby. The risk of delivering a baby at 35 weeks is considered to be less than the risk of waiting longer for the baby to be born.
