A member asked:

I had lap surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago and there is still a hole where the incision was made and a foul smelling odor with redness and puffy for about a week now should i consult with my surgeron?

Sounds like a plan: In general, any surgical wound with a foul-smelling odor requires a recheck by the surgeon, or by the doctor covering the surgeon if the surgeon is not available. If such a patient has trouble finding help, she can go to the ER to have the ER doctor check the odor, look for discharge, and see if there is a wound infection.
