Gastroenteritis: If the burning discomfort is in the lower abdomen the current inflammation would be more intestinal,rather than higher up in the stomach or duodenum. A viral infection may be present. Treatment would be a low residue,bland diet, drinking adequate fluids, and the use of kaopectate or Imodium to control diarrhea. If the burning is in the upper abdomen, increase the omeprazole to twice a day. ?See MD

More going on: There’s more going on than a stomach ulcer alone! Certainly the stomach ache can be due to the ulcer, however the other symptoms (burning anus/diarrhea are not. If his diarrhea has been going on over a week I would recommend he see his Dr for further evaluation. In the meantime, avoid oily and spicy food, NSAIDs. Call Dr right away if any bloody or dark tarry bowel movements.

Ulcer/ Altosec: Have they checked him for H pylori? That is a bacteria that is associated and can exacerbate ulcers. To treat need antibiotics as well. Also sometimes adding an H2 blocker like ranitidine helps as well. Check gastrin level F/u/ w/ GI regarding H pylori. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, spicy /fatty foods motrin like products and ASA ( or discuss ASA with cardiology if needed)
