My abdomen is not symmetrical my surgeon says its a muscle not a hernia. what may this be, the left side is protruding about 1 cm forward?

Sounds normal: Nobody's body is perfectly symmetrical. A surgeon is not likely to miss a hernia versus muscle prominence. And a 1 cm difference sounds trivial. Probably this is entirely normal and nothing to worry about.
