Extraction: An extraction is a minor surgical procedure to remove a compromised tooth. Was the extraction surgical in nature, with sutures? There are pain meds that you can take to help with your discomfort. please speak to your dentist.

Pain: You had surgery. Probably infection of the compromised tooth and surrounding tissues was present before the surgery. Your treating Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon can evaluate and prescribe appropriate pain and anti-infection medications
