Pain: If it has been three days since the extraction and the area is painful and swollen, you may be experiencing a post surgical complication which may be easily managed by the doctor who performed the surgery. You should ask to be seen for a follow up examination and any indicated treatment.

Needs Evaluation: Call your dentist to take a look. You may be getting a dry socket or other post operative infection. If so it will need to be treated. This is not uncommon so no need to worry, but it is important to get it evaluated.

Very common: Swelling and pain after tooth extraction procedure is normal body reaction.It is a good sign and indicator of normal progress of healing of tooth extraction socket.Swelling usually lasts for 7-10 days. If concerned, see your surgeon for post-op visit.

Extraction: Swelling/pain should be going down 3 days post-op, not increasing. Please see the Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon who did the surgery for a post-surgical reevaluation.
