A member asked:

Can a ophthalmologist see optic neuritis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually: The ophthalmologist will put together the clues which make optic neuritis the most likely diagnosis. This will include lowered vision, a pupillary change termed afferent defect, color deficiency in the involved eye, swelling of the optic nerve on examination and pain behind the eye or on eye motion. If most of these are present, then that diagnosis is likely.
