Interesting: From your description I would suspect the kid has a chronic condition- asthma as a background to other incidental illnesses. I would consult with a pediatric pulmonologist, usually affiliated with children's hospitals/ medical schools. Write down all you remember about the issues & bring records of hospital or ER care with you. After reviewing the data & some testing they could sort this out.
