A member asked:

Just had bone marrow biopsy today and told it cant be stained congo red to check for amyloid unless there is blood vessel in the sample. this true?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Amyloid deposits are usually seen in blood vessels. In uncommon cases, amyloid may be seen around the fat cells. Bone marrow examination will still be useful in case there are findings suggesting a disorder that may be the underlying cause of amyloid, in case you do have amyloid.
