A member asked:

If blood work has not shown the cause of my polycythemia, will a bone marrow biopsy be helpful? my hematologist has mentioned it, but not done it.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It may or maynot: The diagnosis of polycythemia requires several criteria which are well defined. They include CBC, Hb level, WBC level, platelets and Blood erythropoetin level. Send us the results and we can help you. Unless your Hb is above 17 grams, you can get a follow up CBC in 2-3 months and see if it is rising.
