Treatment varies: Cuts that remain within the vermillion (fleshy red) of the lips are often left alone to self heal. Stitching can trap germs & abscess. Cuts that cross the line dividing the normal skin with the vermillion generally need to be stitched to line up the tissue or it would heal with a cosmetically poor notch. An exam by a doc to sort this issue out may be needed.
