Enlarged lymph nodes: What you are describing could be enlarged lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are frequently referred to as "glands" by some people. They usually enlarge to help fight local infections such as sore throats, infected hairs, local scratches. Kitten scratches can cause them due to associated bacterial infections.
