HPV tests: When getting a "pap smear", it is routine to test for types of "human papilloma virus" at the same time. Some types are much more likely to eventually produce pre-malignant and eventual malignant cells in the cervix. Type 16 and 18 are the most likely to produce irregularities in the pap smear. See your gyn provider for further testing. It takes on average several years to progress.
