Can i continue breastfeeding my 5 month old while on a course of prednisone?

Yes: Small amounts of prednisone will pass into the breast milk but non enough to be worrisome. Since it mimics a natural stress hormone we all make and we might also give it to the baby on occasion it is considered quite safe.
