Acute heart damage: yes. Heart failure, a typical end result of multiple clinically silent heart attacks, not necessarily. Troponin from muscle cells, heart & others, is released when muscle cells are damaged by ischemia & self-destruct (apoptosis). Troponin elevation in venous blood samples is short lived.
