A member asked:

Can hepatitis b surface antigen and treponemal ab test be performed by taking swabs from the mouth?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Generally not: Tests for Hepatitis B and for syphilis are done with blood samples and not mouth swabs. The blood tests are reliable after one's body has had enough time to either react to or incubate the particular germs.
