Seek advice: Depends on the condition being investigated. So for specifics need to discuss with the doctor who ordered it. In general M mode measures movement and 2D actual thickness. Both can be subject to operator dependent artefact so that's where need information re why done and what looking for. Truth is elusive: Yes U/S is the most operator dependant imaging study so a weak tech. confounds the whole issue. The radiologist has a chance to make the report make sense though. Failing that, the clinician can put it in context. Failing that, a repeat study should put this ugly matter to rest. Absolute measurements when borderline are not usu. reliable anyway.
