Chronic inflammation: Intestinal metaplasia in the stomach is most likely caused by chronic inflammation (often related to H.Pylori, smoking, nsaids, or alcohol). Other causes of excess acid in the stomach, or other causes of damage to the stomach lining may also play a role. Best to avoid alcohol and discuss other prevention options that are best for you with your gastroenterologist.
