Its still possible: What needs to happen here is to have serial B HCGs done at regular intervals. The pattern will tell. If steady increase may still progress whereas if flattening off then likely pregnancy is failing. The other thing need to know here is did the scan therefore find the pregnancy in the womb (intrauterine) and is there a heartbeat. Perhaps discuss with the person who ordered the scan re further.

HCG assay: The only way to "rule out" an ectopic is if an ultrasound can show a viable intrauterine pregnancy, and at "six weeks" a fetal heartbeat can be seen. The HCG level should get much higher very soon if the pregnancy is still going to continue. Another HCG level in a week should rise considerably. An ultrasound repeat is necessary as well.
