Prodrome: The length of the tingling of an oncoming outbreak of oral herpes called the prodrome varies but is generally 24-48 hours. This is the time you need to take the meds your md or dentist can give you to prevent a full outbreak (pills or cream) so it;s best to have it on hand. Most do not mind giving you a script for it if you ask and if they won't you might consider a different doctor.
