I have herpes type ii. for a month now ive had tingling & burning sensation & lip quivering on my upper lip but no cold sore has appeared. ive taken valacyclovir 1 g for 14 days but has not relieved symptoms am i having an outbreak? or something else

Not herpes: To be sure you understand: HSV2 is the virus, not the disease. Genital herpes can be caused by either HSV1 or 2, but HSV2 infrequently infects the mouth -- i.e. most people with genital HSV2 never get cold sores from it. Herpes doesn't cause "tingling and burning" without visible sores, and herpes outbreaks never last a whole month. And non-improvement on valacyclovir confirms it's not herpes.
