Common: Chronic pain following inguinal hernia repair is common. A CT scan often will not show mesh, especially if the mesh has not contracted and folded up on itself. One step is to have an injection to block the nerve heading to the inguinal area with an anesthetic and steroid. If this relieves the pain, it is likely that the nerve is inflamed in scar tissue. Sometimes this requires an operation to fix.
