A member asked:

I have had phlem in my throat for over a month. i am always clearing my throat and taking lozanges. do i need to see a gp and get antibiotics?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dr. can check throat: New throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if throat symptoms are bothersome, recurrent, or don't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). A few days of throat lozenges may help. Allergies may cause throat mucus.
