Its one possibility: Swelling? fever? salty taste near tooth, puss coming out of gums? Could be you were grinding on the tooth in your sleep and bruised the supporting ligaments. Did it go away shortly after getting up?, after taking tylenol or ibuprofen? Best to see your dentist to have it checked out
