Possible: It could be something ADDRESSED by consult until you could see a dentist

Probably: Although infection is the most common cause of tooth pain, it is not the only cause. No matter the cause it requires immediate treatment. There is no mechanism for self-healing. Please call you Dentist, explain your symptoms, and see how quickly they can get you in for an appointment.

See below: Contact your dentist for a definitive diagnosis and treatment to address your dental concerns. The dentist will prescribe an antibiotic if warranted in addition to treating your problem.

Sudden pain: Sudden severe pain usually indicates some involvement of the nerve of the tooth, very often irreversible damage to nerve, infection and requiring Root Canal Therapy (or even possible extraction). See a dentist immediately for evaluation.

Its one possibility: Swelling? fever? salty taste near tooth, puss coming out of gums? Could be you were grinding on the tooth in your sleep and bruised the supporting ligaments. Did it go away shortly after getting up?, after taking tylenol or ibuprofen? Best to see your dentist to have it checked out

Toothache: Good day; Perfect time to contact dentist. Don't wait till holidays arrive, attempt appointment immediately. Just a generalization, if no swelling felt in mouth- usually dental pain not due to infection.
