Nasopulmonary reflex: When one lies on ones side, the upper nostril tends to clear or "open"; switching sides causes the other nostril to open. The most effective and safe inhaled nasal spray is a steroid such as fluticasone propionate (Flonase, Avamys). It shrinks the tissues of the nose and sinuses. Persistence of the symptoms warrants a visit to ones allergist or ear, nose and throat Dr to enable diagnostic tests
