Had hvac ducts cleaned in our new house that was built in 1908. had very bad allergies and asthma after which is better now. worried that we inhaled asbestos fibers or something - our house currently doesn't have any but maybe it did.should i worry?

Mgt.: I would suggest a professional inspection for asbestos. If you are having respiratory difficulties, an imaging study may be indicated.

Dispersal: For such an old house, I can imagine that much sediment would be found in the HVAC ductwork (I suspect that the ducts were installed somewhat later) When cleaning is attempted, dust particles containing various contaminants or allergens become airborne. Depending on the sizes, they may remain in the air for about a week before settling down again. Get tested for asbestos if concerned.
