Flying ear problems: Bilateral ear infection in kids often have persistent fluid in the middle ear cleft. Flying with associated cabin pressure changes is ill advised during or shortly after a n ear infection. Children often have problem equalizing to begin with. Flying with fluid in the ear can cause problems for your child. Reschedule if you can.

Not a problem: Kids with the routine middle ear infection have fluid within the middle ear instead of air. This fluid is not subject to compression by altitude change or the pressurized cabin, that would otherwise cause pain. These kids often travel better than they would without one.
