A member asked:

So i had a normal cbc/fbc blood test, would i need to request for a haemoglobin s/sickle cell test instead to test for sickle cell disease?

Sickle screening: Babies born in California (maybe the entire US) are screened for sickle cell as part of the newborn screen (from collecting a few drops of heel blood). A person can try to find her newborn screen result. To test now, use the "Sickle cell screen, reflex to Hemoglobin analysis," meaning that a positive screening result leads the lab to analyze the blood to see what exact type of abnormality exists.
