Yes, they are usually correlated. If hemoglobin (hb) is normal, very likely hematocrit (Hct) is also normal. We often estimate Hct by this formula: Hct = Hb x 3. Most machines in fact do not directly measure the hematocrit, but instead calculate it based on the determination of the amount of hemoglobin and the average volume of the red blood cells.
