Standard hygiene: Rarely HSV1 might be transmitted by shared drinking glasses, eating utensils, etc recently been used by someone with oral herpes. These are rare, but you can protect yourself by avoiding shared utensils in contact with your mouth. The virus probably doesn't survive drying, so not transmissible after a few minues. If in doubt, give the glass or fork a quick rinse or alcohol wipe before using it.
