At age "34" it is unlikely to have sexual contact with someone without prior partners, which raises the chance that your partner might have previous contact with HSV I/II. Outbreaks may occur at stressful times, but prior HSV I/II can be spread prior to overt sores appearance.

About half of the adults have had HSV 1 infection. You may ask your partner if he has had cold sores, if he has, then it is not an issue. As Dr. Ferguson stated, you can spread HSV with or without visible lesions. Get HPV, Flu and Covid vaccines. Wish you good health!
