Possible but unlikel: Hi Roy. It's possible for someone to shed the herpes virus and be asymptomatic. People with oral herpes may secrete the virus 2% to 9% of the time when they are not having sores. That being said, if they are asymptomatic and secreting the virus, the amount of virus being shed is much less. You can be tested for infection. I would recommend knowing your sex partner And both of you testing for STD
