Ultrasound: can identify kidney tumors, but is generally not useful for stomach tumors. Air around the kidney would be an unusual finding, are you sure they weren't referring to bowel gas? Air in and around the kidney can by seen in emphysematous pyelonephritis, a severe, potentially life-threatening, necrotizing infection.
