DVT: The most definitive way to diagnose DVT is the venous doppler of the legs. This should be done only index of clinical suspicion is pretty high with risk factors of DVT.

Short answer yes: A blood test D-Dimer can help to tell if a clot is not present if high but not perfect accuracy. If the D-Dimer is negative it is unlikely there is a clot (there are exceptions). If D-Dimer is positive there may be a clot, but there are many other 'false positive' reasons for a positive test. A Positive D-Dimer is usally followed by a venous doppler to look at blood flow in the leg veins.

Yes: You can have a DVT with only pain. A dDimer is a screening test but the conformation test is done by ultrasound. If still concerned discuss with your doctor.

Dvt: It's possible especially if the calf veins are involved, a venous Doppler sonogram would be definitive
