4-6wks. Need tx: Rheumatic fever, with rash, fever, muscle aches, swollen and painful joints, usually appears about 4-6 weeks after the strep infection resolves. It can appear even with minimal strap symptoms that some may not even recognize as such. Strep and rheumatic fever require treatment with antibiotics ; the latter sometimes with long term antibiotic therapy. The treatment can prevent heart valve damage

Normally don'tget it: Strep throat certainly does not happen with each case of strep throat. Especially if it is treated appropriately with antibiotics. Even if it is not treated, it is possible for the body to naturally recover from the infection and not have rheumatic fever as a consequence.
